Laser Hair Removal Treatment in Andheri West, Mumbai West, Mumbai

Laser hair removal is also known as ‘permanent laser hair reduction’. It is a method of permanently eliminating unwanted hair growth from the face and body. The procedure can be done for women as well as men.

If you’re not happy with shaving, tweezing, or waxing to remove unwanted hair laser hair removal  may be an option worth considering.

Laser hair removal is ideal for facial hair growth in women who have hormonal issues, for women who suffer from ingrown hair and for men who like to sport a clean hair-free skin.

How does laser hair reduction work?
The primary principle behind laser hair removal is selective photothermolysis (SPTL), the matching of a specific wavelength of light and pulse duration to obtain optimal effect on a targeted tissue with minimal effect on surrounding tissue. Lasers can cause localized damage by selectively heating dark target matter, melanin, thereby heating up the basal stem cells in the follicle which causes hair growth, the hair follicle, while not heating the rest of the skin. Light is absorbed by dark objects but reflected by light objects and water, so laser energy can be absorbed by dark material in the hair or skin, with much more speed and intensity than just the skin without any dark adult hair or melanin.
Which areas of the body can be treated for laser hair removal

In women, lasers are most commonly used for removing unwanted hair from the face, underarms, bikini-line, legs and arms.  Men usually approach me for beard reshaping and removal of hair from the chest, back and abdomen.

How to Prepare for Laser Hair Removal

Laser hair removal is more than just ”zapping” unwanted hair. It is a medical procedure that requires training to perform and carries potential risks. Before getting laser hair removal, you should thoroughly check the credentials of the doctor or technician performing the procedure.

If you are planning on undergoing laser hair removal, you should limit plucking, waxing, and electrolysis for six weeks before treatment. That’s because the laser targets the hairs’ roots, which are temporarily removed by waxing or plucking.

You should also avoid sun exposure for six weeks before and after treatment. Sun exposure makes laser hair removal less effective and makes complications after treatment more likely.

What to Expect During Laser Hair Removal

Just before the procedure, your hair that will be undergoing treatment will be trimmed to a few millimeters above the skin surface. Usually topical numbing medicine is applied 20- 30 minutes before the laser procedure, to help with the sting of the laser pulses. The laser equipment will be adjusted according to the color, thickness, and location of your hair being treated as well as your skin color.

When will my next session of laser hair reduction be done?

I usually recommend my patients to drop by after 3-4 weeks to show me their hair growth in order to plan the next session. A typical interval between 1st and 2nd session is about 3-4 weeks. These intervals go on increasing as the treatment progresses. The interval between 5th and 6th session is about 3 months for facial hair and about 4-6 months for body hair.

What to expect after the procedure?

You might notice slight redness and small dots like mosquito bites for 30 to 60 minutes after laser hair removal. We generally apply Aloe Vera gel or Calamine lotion to sooth the skin if required. Make sure you use a sunscreen daily and avoid harsh sun exposure for 2 days e.g. A day on the beach or street shopping. Over the next 1 to 2 weeks you may notice tiny hair which grows and sheds off on its own.

What are the total number of treatment sessions required?

Hair grows in several phases (anagen, telogen, catagen) and a laser can only affect the currently active growing hair follicles (early anagen). Hence, several sessions are needed to damage the hair in all phases of growth and force it to revert to a vellus non-colored small hair.[27]

we recommend a minimum of 6 sessions for a good treatment result
